Meet Miss Tashara
Tashara Gavin-Moorehead is a huge advocate for dance education and has been teaching in public and charter schools, as well as community based programs for grades K-12. for the past 18 years.
She has taught a variety of dance genres such as ballet, modern, jazz, and Umfundalai. She has an active performance career and has performed domestically and internationally.
Tashara is passionate about her Black American history and heritage, and uses BAMM! (Black American Music and Movement) as a method to diversify dance and school curriculum with Black American culture.

This proverb lies at the heart of my teaching philosophy.
My pedagogy is rooted in Afrocentric philosophy and the Nguzo Saba, the seven principles of Kwanzaa—a cultural holiday that honors Black American heritage and our ongoing struggle for liberation and freedom.
These principles have guided my life since childhood and continue to shape every aspect of my teaching and mentorship.
My focus is on the quality of knowledge shared and how I can best serve the humanity of each student.
My goal is to inspire and draw out the most powerful parts of every learner—to awaken the soul so it may soar and shine.
Teaching is a calling to guide, coach, and mentor students to explore, discover, and synthesize knowledge in ways that inspire creativity for generations to come.
